Grief Child - Chapter Three Summary.

Setting: Nimo’s home and farm Sharpening of the machetes. The day breaks and we are in Nimo’s compound. Adu, Nimo’s son, wakes up and joins his father Nimo outside – the latter is sharpening his machete (panga) getting ready to go to the farm. Nimo gives the little boy, Adu, instructions. Mahama, Nimo’s farm laborer, wakes. Adu asks to go with his father and Makama to the farm and not to go there later with his mother and sister. His father agrees. Nimo gets his rifle, machete, Adu gets his small hoe and machete, Mahama gets his tools also and the three head off to the farm – too early for birds! We learn that Nimo is an Ashanti by tribe, that he works on a farm belonging to Yeboah – a wealthy landlord who comes once in a while to inspect his farm - we learn that it is a cocoa farm. In the swamp, the farm caretakers like Nimo grow food crops like yams and rice. We learn that Nimo is a hunter too, a good one! He hunts antelopes and other animals. He often takes his son Adu to ...
