Grief Child is a novel by Darmani Lawrence. Lawrence is an award winning Ghanaian writer and teacher. He won the the Commonwealth Writers' Prize as best first book from Africa among other prizes. The novel follows the life of Adu, a young boy who goes through many tragedies in his life. At the beginning of the novel, he gets a bad dream about a leopard chasing him and almost devouring him, people (in the dream) look on but do not help or save him from the angry leopard. Later he loses his mother in a very terrible way. He also loses his father, relatives and best friend. He goes through a lot up to the time when he grows up.
